8.8.07: The old lighthouse

10.30 am

Before leaving the Ness I climb the old lighthouse. It has 169 steps and convenient stop-offs at floors on the way up; this is fortunate or I couldn't make it. You can see the new lighthouse from the top.

The lenses are on the second floor.

I meet Louise, Michelle and their children. Louise was an art student at Christchurch Canterbury. She is pleased that she stopped smoking well before the new legislation as she thinks an anti-authoritarian streak would prevent her from doing so now. They pose inside the lenses . . .

Before heading off the Ness I stop and buy smoked salmon at Jim's Smokery. He has constant film crews on location here. Some pay, most don't, but Jim considers it good publicity.
